What Are The Best Shoes For Toddlers?

To be independent, in control, meet and explore all physical abilities.

Samantha’s Quality Tip: Shoes for your toddler should always be based on your child’s barefoot model. If your child has special needs while barefooted, they will still have these needs with shoes.

The Importance Of Wearing The Right Shoes

After working years within daycare centers and other educational spaces, I have helped in teaching several toddlers how to put on their shoes. I have seen many different great and not-so-great toddler shoes; in the end, the key is to help your toddler become independent, in control, and physically. However, knowing how to put on one’s shoes is a great start, so I have put this video together to help parents.

Additional things to keep in mind

  • Stiff and tight footwear may cause deformity and loss of mobility.

  • Toddler shoes should have good airing to keep the feet cool.

  • Toddler shoes should have a little growth room about a thumb’s width near the toes.

  • Velcro on shoes is a toddler’s best friend and can help teach shoe independence.
